A/V Best
Behavior Evaluation Strategies and Taxonomies software. BEST is a user-friendly software package that facilitates real-time collection and analysis of observational category system data.
Core Product Description: Two separate but compatible programs, data collection and data analysis, are made available to collect and analyze observational category system data. Two Platforms: Windows-based and DOS-based (refer to relevant Core Program Offering).
The collection program enables the recording of start and stop times of multiple mutually exclusive or overlapping events in real time. Recording can be implemented in the live setting or in synchrony with videotape records. Multiple different observation systems may be used with the same data collection apparatus by predefining keys on the keyboard and then saving a particular observation system file. Each predefined observational configuration for a particular application is represented on screen for data collection ease. A configuration file manager for multiple categorical observation systems, and a file manager for multiple data files for each observation system is also contained in the program.
The analysis program enables the viewing and manipulation of individual data files, and data file collections, in tabular, graphic, and hierarchical formats. Analyses range from descriptive statistics, to narrative analyses, to sequential analyses, to a variety of graphic representations. Data file editing, clipboarding to other statistical and graphic editing programs, printing, and other data file manipulation functions are also included.
T CDC EZ - TEXT
"CDC EZ-Text" is a software program developed to assist researchers create, manage, and analyze semi-structured qualitative databases. Researchers can design a series of data entry templates tailored to their questionnaire. These questionnaires are usually administered during face-to-face interviews with a sample of respondents. A response to a question may be entered into EZ-Text either as a verbatim transcript (e.g., from a tape recording), or a summary generated from the interviewer's notes. Data from respondents can be typed directly into the templates or copied from word processor documents. Following data entry, investigators can interactively create on-line codebooks, apply codes to specific response passages, develop case studies, conduct database searches to identify text passages that meet user-specified conditions, and export data in a wide array of formats for further analysis with other qualitative or statistical analysis software programs. Project managers can merge data files generated by different interviewers for combined cross-site analyses. The ability to export and import the codebook helps to coordinate the efforts of multiple coders simultaneously working with copies of the same database file.
T Code-A-Text
The Code-A-Text Integrated System for the Analysis of Interviews and Dialogues. A very powerful system for studying multimedia documents which integrates qualitative and quantitative methods.
T CodeRead - an autocoding mechanism for text-based data
Most of CodeRead is encapsulated in the four Perl modules that define the data structures and methods. You can get information at that level by using perldoc CodeRead in the appropriate directory. The perldoc simply documents the perl objects and their properties and methods. Perl programmers may find this useful, most others will clearly not. There is, in addition, a frontend script that remains VERY basic. This script makes it possible for non-programmers to get somewhere (although it's not clear where) using CodeRead. The script is called cr.pl and should usually be run from the command line while in the directory where CodeRead is installed. You can type cr.pl -h to get a list of options for using the script. It allows basic, but not very fine-grained, use of the tools.
A/V CVideo
CVideo is a video annotation tool that lets you analyze, annotate and easily locate specific scenes on your videotapes and laserdiscs.
CVideo integrates a special word processor with a video controller. The video controller provides direct control of your video player with single keystrokes and mouse clicks. The word processor lets you take notes and stamp start and end times that link each note to a video scene. Once your video is annotated, CVideo can fast forward or rewind automatically to a specific video scene or text note.
CVideo's word processor format supports a great variety of representations including content logs, transcripts, and keyword coding schemes. Moreover, users can mix and match a variety of annotation strategies within a single document: keywords, transcript, and analytic comments can be intermingled freely. The Find command enables users to search their text for a keyword or phrase, and the Collect All command gathers the resulting set of annotations into a list.
CVideo links your Mac to a video player via a simple cable. It runs on any Apple(R) Macintosh(R) computer, with no need for special video cards or a lot of computer memory. CVideo can be used with any television monitor and works with popular makes of VCRs and camcorders, including Sony LANC and Visca devices.
Finally, CVideo now gives you nearly unlimited flexibility in how you record and view you video notes. Using the custom AppleEvents supported within CVideo 1.5, you can annotate video within any Macintosh application, including FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Word, or your electronic mail editor. For example, if you need a database format with multiple fields including QuickTime movies, numbers, buttons, and checkbox, you can type your video notes in FileMaker Pro 2.0. Via AppleEvents, all CVideo's features become available for your use: Press a key to start or stop the video. Click a button to stamp a video time into a FileMaker Pro field. Click another button and CVideo will locate the corresponding video scene for you. All without leaving FileMaker Pro!
CVideo is simple to learn since only a few controls and commands are needed to quickly timestamp, annotate and locate your recorded video material.
