<Questionnaire >

Dear Sir, Madam,

First of all we would like to apologise to you for writing in English, but this saves us time as we both want to address North and South Belgian radio people.

We have sent you this letter because we have just initiated a project aiming to record the histories of some of the most important Belgian community radio stations and of the Belgian Community Radio Movement (hereafter called CRM).

This histories-project will run for several years and has no budget (as is often the case in our field ;), but nevertheless we consider both these media histories (as such) and the community media still making these histories to be of major importance.

The histories-project consists out of four phases:

Mapping the key persons of the Belgian CRM, using snowball sampling as methodology. A first group of 40 persons will be asked to name the people they consider to have played a vital role in the CRM. This will result in a first database of key persons.
Gathering information on the activities of the selected key persons. All key persons will be asked to write a 1/2 page report on their CRS/M-activities. This second database will be published on the website (of course only if the participants grant their permission), facilitating the selection of the group of people eventually having their stories published in a book.
These key persons will be invited to write the history of the CRM and their CRS, and at the same time collect about 10 pictures and 5 30seconds - audio fragments. These documents will then be published on the project's website.
A selection of the stories of the key persons - made in collaboration with the participants will be published, together with an introduction and conclusion by the project managers.

We would like to ask you to help us with the first phase (and possibly with several of the other phases, but first things first). In order to draw a map of all relevant people in the CRM, we would like you to answer the following questions. This will allow us to make an overview of the people who plays/played an important within the CRM and the different radio stations.

If you receive this request by email, please use the reply-button, and mail the filled out questionnaire back to us. If you receive this letter by ordinary mail, please send it to: Nico Carpentier, xxxxx xx, b-xxxx xxxxxxxxx.

Please reply before 1 April 2001.
